My new build (was My Upgrades)

So, after shopping for BF3, I decided that I need to perform some upgrades if I want to play BF3 or MW3. I have an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe board and a Phenom 9550 2.6 Gig quad processor. I am upgrading my Video and Ram and OS to this.

Awesome. Now what resolution do you run? I upgraded to a GTX 580 to run it smoothly at 1920x1080.
Might want to take a look at this benchmark. That card isn't on there but the next few higher are. And they might give you an idea of what to expect.

The gtx550 should be close to the same specs as the gtx470.
Nothing wrong with that but it is the lowest end gtx5 series card you can get.
Is the 4gb of ram in addition to some other ram or is 4gb of ram all you will have?
Andy and myself are seeing almost 3gb of ram use at time playing The Old Republic. At times Andy has issues as he only has 4gb of ram. I have 12 so it's not an issue.
Nothing wrong with Win 7 and to be honest its the most future proof thing on your list.
Honestly Buck you are getting the bare minimums to run the game. I know you probably dont have the cash or the go ahead from the wife to spend more but i would look to the gtx560ti and more ram.

I will be running at 1920 x 1080. The 4g is all I will have...this is a stop gap until I drop for a new mobo, cpu etc...my current mobo can only handle 8g ram...If this setup is stable and ok, I will drop for another two sticks of ram to bring it up to 8...might try leaving my 2g of Balistix in to give me six. If the performance is substandard...I will prolly build a new sys using the 550 card and order another one and run em in SLI

Cool. And looking at the SLI benchmarks, SLI is providing about a 60% bump. So if you get 40fps, SLI will push you over the 60fps level. But sounds like that card will give you more than that, maybe 55fps with setting on High. So hopefully will be fine.

Now that's a good upgrade from what you had.

Since the new mobo does not have IDE and requires me to buy new optical drives, I decided to just bite the rest of the bullet and build another case.

I will sell my old computer complete to one of my less well off younger soldiers for a few hundred.

That's a nice case you are getting there. Lots of potential and i considered using it as the clan PC case build but opted for the corsair.

That's the worst! Can't even start building until you get the case!

So, got everything together, and after much trial and error, finally got it up and running and stable....damn new bios wanted to OC everything and it kept crashing....had to manually set all the values for the ram, but it is running good now....one thing I did notice...COD crashes on multi startup unless I have the headset plugged in

So I was having some serious stability issues with the new setup, and decided to go with a different / slower memory to see if it would solve the issue. I ordered up some Corsair DDR3 1333 and installed it yesterday...then BAM, anither crash, I was livid. In my sleep last night, I had the bright idea to roll back my bios to an older version and try that, when I went to the ASUS site, they had just released a new bios version...got that flashed and after ensuring all the settings were to my liking, began running it through the paces...so far so good, and good to know ASUS is still tweaking this mobo.

I hate to be an intel fan boy but every intel board i have ever had has been plug and play regardless of what bios update may or may not be available.
P.S I like dancing titties!
