possibly getting a new desktop

this laptop is just not cutting it. I rarely even use it for school i should have just gotten a desktop in the first place. Ive got $800 free left over from a grant i didnt use all up.
I know pretty much nothing about computers so i figured i would ask you guys a few questions. just doing a quick search on newegg i found some stuff but i dont know if it would all fit together properly.
case:

CPU:

Graphics:

Power:

CD-ROM:

Grand total for that stuff is $885 which i thought was amazingly low which means the stuff is probably not compatible lol. plus on top of that i gotta buy windows and a monitor.
I'm not sure if its even worth it to get more than 4GB RAM i was reading a whole bunch of junk today and people were saying that most systems cant even really utilize more.
And as far as graphics and CPU and hard drive speeds im not looking for anything super fast. just something that will last me hopefully 2-4 years playing games decently and store a bunch of movies and tv shows.
Help is appreciated since you guys know way more about this stuff than i do

You can't use more than 4GB of ram on a 32 bit OS but you can have up to 16GB with a 64bit OS I believe. I wouldn't get more than 4GB just for an all purpose machine anyways. Otherwise it looks ok to me. Though if you used AMD you would get a much better value, in my opinion. I won't support Intel by buying their CPUs anymore anyways since they got caught bribing places to not sell AMD components.
With the same clock speeds this is cheaper:

With a higher clock speed this is still cheaper:

This one is probly your safest bet for a budget as it is faster overall than the i5 line:

You could pair any one of them with this:

AMD has much better budget CPU and overall parts. Whatever you choose will be a big step up from what you are currently using though!

So if i went with these instead of the intel stuff what is the advantage of getting 6 cores and slower clocking speed?

You have to look into the future and the longevity of the product, also what you will be utilizing your products for. if it's for gaming then budget all your components except the video card. gaming is graphics intensive so the better card you can afford to buy the better you will be.
My current system is a generation old but because i have a pretty good video card it still does very well in games. My cpu is a 775 socket 2.4 ghz P4 easily clocked to 3.0ghz right now. A 6 core amd processor would be a slight upgrade over this cpu at a reasonable cost. However i have read that the i core 7 chips are just amazingly fast and would be a rather large upgrade over my current processor.
I am running 4gigs of ddr2-800 ram, it works but i would really like to have some ddr3-1600 ram. I have considered buying an older mother board that will utilize my socket 775 cpu just so i can upgrade to ddr3. However my Intel engineer friend tells me that because i am a gamer i wouldn't notice a difference with just going to ddr3.
Being budget minded for adam i would opt for an amd cpu to save a bit of cash but turn the savings around and put them back into the video card.
What makes a huge difference in my system is the gtx295 video card that has almost 2gigs of video memory. I am looking to do an upgrade and will get another gtx295 card to run in sli. I know there are newer cards out there but for a minimal amount of money i could be running sli with almost 4gigs of video memory with the power of 4 gpu's.
